Stress-Free Labor Day Travel Tips

Labor Day weekend is around the corner and the TSA is gearing up for record-breaking travel volumes! Over 17 million people are expected to go through airport security from August 29 to September 4, with August 30 set to be the peak day. Here’s how you can breeze through the chaos!

✨ Expedited Security Programs Are Your Best Friend: If you haven’t already, enroll in TSA PreCheck, CLEAR, and/or Global Entry! They are a game-changer. You’ll get to go in a shorter line and there is no need to remove your shoes, belts, or laptops. Get through security faster! Make sure your Known Traveler Number (KTN) is attached to your reservation at least 48 hours before check-in.

✨ Pack Smart: If there was ever a time to stick to carry-on luggage, this is it! When there are large crowds traveling, there tends to be more luggage lost. Follow the 3-1-1 rule for liquids: 3.4 ounces or less, in one quart-sized bag, per person. Keep essentials, like passports/IDs and boarding passes, easily accessible or saved to your digital wallet on your phone. This will help you breeze through checkpoints.

✨ Arrive Early: With more travelers than ever, arriving early is crucial. Plan to get to the airport at least 2 hours before your domestic flight and 3 hours for international. You’ll be grateful for the extra time when lines are long!

✨ Stay Updated: Follow TSA, your home airport, and your airline on social media for the latest updates on security wait times and potential delays. Knowledge is power and staying informed will keep you a step ahead. Check your flight status on Flight Radar before you leave for the airport and make sure to check your incoming plane’s status as well to ensure you will have a plane!

✨ Pack Your Patience: This weekend will be busy, so expect some delays. The airport staff is working hard to keep things moving, but a little patience will go a long way. Your vacation starts with a positive mindset and a little kindness will go a long way.
